Xtreme Keeps Chowan County Water Search and Rescue operations ready to go, no matter what conditions present |
For approximately 40 years, EMS and Rescue personnel of Chowan County Emergency Services have responded to water search, rescue and recovery missions along the Chowan River and Albemarle Sound of Northeastern North Carolina. Our primary mission is the protection of life and property for the citizens and visitors to the waterways surrounding Chowan County.
We have responded to calls were boaters are overdue, people in the water, drowning, suicides, boats broken down or out of fuel and public events on the water.
For twenty-two (22) years, we have responded to these missions utilizing a 24' Albemarle boat, which is manufactured here in Chowan County. Currently, our primary response boat is a 2004 Center Console 24' Albemarle.
Our yearly temperature average is 62 degrees. We can experience extreme temperatures that range from the high 90's during the summer to the low teens during the winter. During the winter months, it has been known for some icing to occur along the shorelines of the Chowan River and Albemarle Sound. Our boat, which is stationed in the water, has to be ready to respond at any given moment. With the temperatures mentioned you can understand the importance of having our boat ready to respond at all times and the flexibility having an Xtreme Heater offers us.
We take extreme pride in being able to accommodate the community in their time of need and utilize all means to keep our equipment prepared to respond.
Sincerely, Douglas L. Belch, Director [Chowan County Emergency Services] |

Xtreme Heaters work for land lubbers too, keeping the tanks and plumbing safe in this RV |

Dear Xtreme Heaters,
As a newcomer to Georgia from Florida, I had to learn about preparing for freezing temperatures here in the winter.
The good news is that I learned the easy way! Indeed, I was fortunate that my knowledgeable local boating supply dealer recommended and demonstrated your products 3 winters ago. I bought them and have slept like a baby ever since!
I use your heaters to protect many of my valuable toys including both of my boats and found that they are perfect for protecting my RV too. They are easy to put into place, reliable as a stone, highly efficient and with their small footprint, are easy to fit just about anywhere.
When the mercury falls and the cold winds blow from the north, I just don't worry about my "fun stuff"...knowing they are all protected with the best in the business...Xtreme Heaters.
Thanks to the Xtreme Heater engineers for designing such a great product and thanks to my local dealer for recommending it. I will be sending you pictures of my 1999 Bounder diesel pusher motor home protected by Xtreme Heaters.
--Sincerely yours, Mark, Cumming, GA |

Steve:
Here are the pictures I promised to you. The skis are stored at Pickwick Lake about 100 miles away from my home in Memphis, TN. I just stopped by the storage facility on my way home from Nashville to check on things. I had placed two 300 watt heaters in service on December 1, 2007 (one in each ski). You can see from the pictures that I placed a thermometer on each engine block. When I checked the thermometers the coldest outside temp was 24 degrees and the coldest inside temp was 38.3 degrees during the period from December 1 to December 19, 2007. Looks like the heaters did a very good job keeping engine compartment temps well above freezing. I had removed the middle seat on each ski to promote air circulation into the engine compartment. The heater itself was mounted on a 12 inch an oak plank to insulate it from the rubber matting in the foot well and to add some additional stability. The quilted furniture pads were purchased at a UHaul location. Let me know if you have any questions about what you see.
--Bill Massey, Memphis, TN
Steve:Here is an update on how the heaters have performed in the Jetskis. For the period 12/20/2007 to 01/30/2008, the lowest recorded outside temp was 15.8 degrees while the lowest inside temp was 36.4 in one ski and 40.1 in the other. Looks like the heaters did their job very well. Temps here in Tennessee begin rising in early February so I'm hopeful that the worst of the winter is behind us. - Bill |

My buddies were impressed with the setup since we were still out long after they had winterized
Overall the heater appears to work good. We had a wakeboard session Thanksgiving weekend and I put it up the first week of Dec (saving Nov dry storage fees). Plan is to have it out late Feb for ballast and Perfect pass installs and be on the lake by St Patrick's Day (40 deg water temps).
Again living in Kansas, my goal was to extend my spring and fall by 6-8 weeks each and have some extra insurance the block would not freeze. My buddies were impressed with the setup since we were still out long after they had winterized . --Brian

For me in the age where CUSTOMER SERVICE is a forgotten word Xtreme Heaters went the extra mile to make my purchase a memorable one
The well-documented drought in North Carolina, specifically Lake Norman where I live, has adversely effected recreational boating. The last time I was able to use my boat was the first week in August. The lake water level is down about seven feet preventing me from lowering the boatlift.
The cold weather is now upon us leaving the boat on the lift this winter. This raised the issue of winterizing, which I have never done before. So I visited my local West Marine store looking for a bilge heater. The sales person recommended your product so I made the purchase and headed home. Once home I read through the instruction material and had a few questions before installing it. I called your customer service number and Steve the owner, to my surprise, answered from his home. As we spoke he discovered the unit I purchased was two years old and did not have the LED power indicator light witch was important to me. He said that he would get back to me after he got to the office to see if he had someone in my area to swap out my older unit for the new model with an led power light . Steve emailed me back with in an hour with information to do exchange. For me in the age where CUSTOMER SERVICE is a forgotten word Xtreme Heaters went the extra mile to make my purchase a memorable one. I can't tell you how impressed I was with their professionalism and courtesy making me truly glad I purchased their product - Sincerely, Ron La Morte, Mooresville, NC 28117

Buy one today, buy it from Steve and you will be quite happy that you did

purchased an Xtreme Heater from West Marine in Nashville and installed it on my Chaparral 233 Sunesta before the frost hit Tennessee in order to delay or refrain from winterizing the boat and extending the boating season. When the temperature dropped below forty degrees Fahrenheit it was soon obvious that the thermostat was malfunctioning. With the temperature set to drop in two days to its lowest level (in the teens) in many years I was very concerned to say the least. So I called the factory and to my surprise Steve, the owner, answered the phone. He was concerned as well and he told me to keep the unit I had and he would overnight a new one. And he did. This is very unusual in today's marketplace as he did every thing possible to make it right for the customer. The new heater works just as advertised and I am very pleased, both in the level of customer service and the performance of the Xtreme. Buy one today, buy it from Steve and you will be quite happy that you did. - Charles Ed West [1995 Cruisers Yacht, 3175 Rogue]

I did not want to worry about cold weather problems in the engine compartment
I have invested a great deal of time and resources in my twin engine Formula PC 27 and I did not want to worry about cold weather problems in the engine compartment. After carefully researching the options, I purchased the mid-size Xtreme Heater. It has exceeded my expectations. I place it in the engine compartment in late November with full confidence that it will perform as promised throughout the winter months of the Northwest. I am particularly pleased with the availability of Steve to answer any questions that I might have about the heater and was impressed when he assured me that he stands by his product for many years.
The quality of the heater combined with the customer service provided by Steve make the heater a product worth owning! - Thanks Sylvia

I would like to thank you and Xtreme Heaters for the exceptional customer service I received on the XXX heater I recently purchased from a local boat store. I contacted you with what I thought was a simple question about the heater function. After asking me a few question you told me the heater was an older model (up to 3 years old), to return it, and you would immediately ship the new current model. Your response was totally unexpected but your honesty and quick customer service was greatly appreciated. I would recommend Xtreme Heaters to anyone simply based on customer service.
Attached is a picture of my 2008 31 foot Sea Ray Sundancer in which I installed the new bilge heater - Thanks again, Ernie

I would highly recommend the Xtreme Marine Compartment Heaters for all boaters that do not want to winterize the motors and use their boat year round
My 33' Sea Ray Sundancer has limited work area in the bilge and I do not want to always step over a heater when trying to work in small spaces. The Xtreme Heater has a small footprint and comes with a long prewired cord that can be plugged into a 115 volt receptacle or hard wired in the boat. For my application I plugged my Xtreme Heater into a 115 volt receptacle and will remove and store during the warmer months until it is needed again. " - RTF, Tennessee

I could not be more satisfied with my new heater or with the fantastic customer service
I recently purchased one of your heaters for my 32' Tiara and although reasonably pleased, I had some concerns about the operation of the heater. When I called your company number, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was speaking to the president of the company.
I explained my concerns and Steve, the president, immediately told me that I had an older unit that was no longer manufactured. Steve then asked me if I would be willing to exchange my unit for a brand new one. Of Course I would was my response. As quickly as I could send my heater to Steve, he sent a new one to me. I think the two units passed each other in the Atlanta airport. I could not be more satisfied with my new heater or with the fantastic customer service. That is the way to run a company. - Congratulations, Steve! -- Sincerely, Irwin

I'm impressed with your design of the Xtreme (450w)

Hi Steve,
It's January in Maryland and my wife and I just took the boat to Baltimore's Inner Harbor for the weekend. I think we were the only ones out except for the commercial traffic. What a treat!
I just had a chance to test the heaters. Uh...wow! I'm impressed with your design of the Xtreme (450w) you sent (are those heat sync's in there? ...interesting way to create heat without spark risk). It does take a little bit to warm up, but when it does...WOW. And then you've got the fan running well after the heat elements turn off...great way to maximize the output! Thanks for all your help in designing a system that will work for my powercat and it's unique needs. I'm very happy with the results. --Kurt

I finally completed the installation of my heater as we discussed via tel-con while you were at the Miami Boat Show. I have attached pictures of the Extreme installation and removal of the Boat Safe unit.
I have also run some temperature tests with the temperature telemetry provided by the temperature sensors also pictured in the attachment. The sensors send temperature readings to the base unit located in the house every 40 seconds. I can tell by the temperature readings when the heater is running and when it shuts down. These tests are run under actual conditions. The outdoor temperature was roughly 35 degrees during the day and reached 25 degrees at it's lowest point at night. The water temp. was 39 degrees. The sensor located forward of the engines , (The one pictured in the attachment) read between 45.4 and 46.0 degrees during the day, and 41.4 and 42.0 degrees during the night. The heater runs for about 30 minutes before shutting down and restarts about 35 minutes later. This cycle results in the .6 degree change in temperature.
The Boat Safe heater was located at the rear of the engine compartment mounted high on the transom,as you should be able to see in the pictures I sent you. The heater was so big I could not find a better place. It was very inefficient in that location. It did not run very long either (20 min) before shutting down. The temp. sensors would not even register a change during its cycle.
Hope you like the pictures!!! - Denny

Dear Xtreme, I just purchased your 300w heater for my Eastern Downeast 27 because the boat is in a slip year round and the marine mechanic recommended it. After some internet research i purchased one of the Xtreme units . Since i use my boat year round on lake Norman and below freezing is common during the winter i can use the boat with confidence .Great product. I have it hardwired into the 120 shore power and the installation couldn't have been easier. - Thanks John H

Love the heater - seemed to do a good job last season

Xtreme Heaters guys, Sorry so long to get back to you. I finally was doing some work in the bilge and had the camera handy so I am sending you some shots. The picture of the electrical panel shows the dedicated breaker. Red toggle - not yet labeled but is dedicated 20 amp for the bilge heater.
The other two shots are of the mounted heater itself. I used a nylon cutting board from Wal-mart to serve as a rot-proof mount. Let me know what you think. If you want to post these on your web site I am okay for you to do that.
Love the heater - seemed to do a good job last season. By the way I used a couple of sponges stuffed into the bilge vents to keep out the winter air. The configuration of my bilge vents lended itself well to this solution. - Doug

I was able to use my boat on many occasions this winter
I purchased my Xtreme Heater in August and used it successfully throughout the winter. As a new boat owner, I was very apprehensive about relying on a small plug in heater to protect my engine block from cracking.
All of my boating friends advised me to winterize my boat and forget about it for 3 months. I didn't want to miss any warm fronts common during Georgia winters, so I tried the Xtreme boat heater. If the Xtreme Heater failed to protect my engine block, I would have probably given up boating. It turned out to be well worth the investment. I was able to use my boat on many occasions this winter. You should have seen the disappointing look on my neighbors and friends when they were stuck with winterized boats.
I recommend the Xtreme Heater as a great long term investment and as a simple way to extend your boating season. - Best regards, Ken

I am in Washington state and we had some pretty cold days and nights here a couple weeks ago and it kept everything nice

I have the 450w Xtreme heater. It now comes on at about 38 and shuts off around 46. The ad says it should be 40 - 50. I guess my temp gauge could be off a little. I am in Washington state and we had some pretty cold days and nights here a couple weeks ago and it kept everything nice. I use a ceramic heater in the cabin which works well. Set on low it keeps it just above 40. My boat sits beside my house and when I am going to take the boat out I remove the heater since it is not mounted.

I installed an Xtreme heater in my bilge this year and I have been very happy with it's performance and the way it saves a lot of $$'s versus it's competitors. I do have a question on how to permanently wire it into my shore power, but I will figure that one out soon. It is a great unit that does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it very well, at least here in Georgia.

I think it is important to acknowledge someone who steps up and delivers
Well I suppose it is only right that once in a while I praise a company instead of complaining about them. I received the 3 600watt units I ordered, they seem to be very well made and much higher quality than the Boatsafe one I already have. They are very compact and are easier to mount. The real reason I'm posting is that I received a phone call yesterday that Xtreme has gone through the approval process and the units are now certified as ignition protected. Kudos to them for spending the money and doing the right thing. They now have the only one on the market that can legally be installed in a gas boat.
Anyone who thinks I am plugging someone's product for gain, only has to review any of my past posts to see I do more criticizing than praising. But I think it is important to acknowledge someone who steps up and delivers. - Captain Keith

I really like the idea of taking the boat out on the occasional higher temp days we get in the Washington DC area. I only live 15 minutes from my marina and I am planning a number of interior projects throughout the winter months.
As you can tell, I'm not too keen on winterizing the engines. I've learned the hard way that disconnecting / reconnecting hoses on engines this age often bring bigger projects. Furthermore, I have not found a mechanic I trust yet.

I use a Xtreme heater, 450w model on my Bayliner 2455. Seems to work good. I don't keep my boat in the water and I use a small electric cabin heater set to the lowest setting in the cabin. This keeps the cabin in the 50's. I have all the cabinets opened and seat cushions up so the heat can get everywhere.

I installed an Xtreme heater in my bilge last year and they work great! The operation is inexpensive too! I am in GA where the temps do not reach critical very often so I am not sure just how these would be in a colder climate. My boat is in water year round. I do seal the vents when the temp is predicted to be below freezing and remove the seals if I want to go out.

have the Xtreme heater in my boat in north Atlanta. It hurts the pocket, but is worth it in my case were the temp goes from 18 to 65 in a week. That way I can hit the lake still. I just drain the manifolds, plug in the heater and go home.

These Xtreme heaters are so small I put a 600 w under each engine
Here is my plans. I live in Maryland and the winter here is never that bad. I bought 2 600 W Xtreme Heaters. One for each engine. Last year I had the boat safe heater 700 W, but it was so big I could only put it on the far side of the bilge. I just didn't feel good about the boatsafe heater. But these Xtreme heaters are so small I put a 600 w under each engine. That should keep the bilge nice and toasty. Maybe a little overkill, but I like overkill. - Gripit offshoreonly.com
